We have a lot of great vegetarian cookbooks at the library (like the one above), and we seem to be stocking more each day. With more people choosing a plant-based diet, this has become a popular and healthy trend. If you’re interested in cooking more vegetarian, or just want to see what the fuss is all about, drop by the library and check out a few of these great new cookbooks. Even if you only do a vegetarian meal once a week, your family will be better off for it.
But if you’ve done the full switch to a plant-based life, you’ve probably noticed how hard it is to fit this lifestyle into the every day. Eating out, family meals, school lunches, coffee with friends…all of it becomes more difficult to do, and that can be stressful. Gearing up for fall, a lot of people are thinking about back-to-school lunches, and dinners for the family. This is a great time to gather up some new cookbooks from the library and try out new recipes. And we have a lot of fabulous books here to try out!

But the idea of trying out new foods got me thinking about the idea of eating differently altogether. While a lot of people look to become vegan, or vegetarians, it’s not an option for everyone. How about becoming a “reducetarian”? Haven’t heard of that? Me either, until recently.
It turns out, reducetarianism is a “new” movement focused on trying to eat less meat, not all meat or animal products. And to start, they recommend just giving it a go for 30 days. This is something totally doable, I think. And while cutting back on meat and animal products won’t totally win you a spot on the vegan team, it will bring about a lot of health benefits, simply because in order to reduce that meat option, you’ll likely add in more vegetables. It’s a win-win!

A lot of people are getting into the vegan lifestyle. Maybe it’s just that summer is around the corner and we’d all like to be a few pounds lighter for shorts/bathing suit season, but it’s also because a lot of us are looking to get healthier. And healthier means more fruits and veggies, plain and simple.
We’ve had many new cookbooks show up at the library recently with lots of wonderful recipes, including vegan and vegetarian cookbooks. One of the prettiest ones lately has been the OH SHE GLOWS cookbook by Angela Liddon. It is a compilation of recipes from her popular food blog by the same name, and it was the photos and straight-forward ingredients that caught my eye. But I’m a bit of a pushover when it comes to recipes.
While I love to cook, finding the time to whip up a recipe when I get home from work just isn’t on my radar. I might experiment on the weekend, but I’m sure there are many people out there just like me. And recently, I noticed on Liddon’s blog that she is concerned about the same problem later this year when her baby arrives. I must say it made me feel better to hear someone else admit they might not have time to put together such healthy foods every single day. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try, but it’s okay not to accomplish it all the time. I’m giving myself permission.
