Grand Prize Draw coming soon…

20160819_093840If you have a young reader at home, there are still a few days left to finish up the TD Summer Reading Club program. We’ll be drawing for the Grand Prize (the wonderful basket above), and smaller prizes late next week, so make sure to come in and get the last of your penguins, stickers, ballots, and more. After that, we’ll be finished for another year.

Who will win??

We’re Instagramming!

teenThis summer, our Teen Summer Reading is taking off in a big way! We begin with our Teen “Take and Make” program. Each week, we’ll put out a new project/challenge/craft for teens to take home and have fun with. This week, we’re starting with an Instagram challenge.

And along with the challenge is a prize (this week we’re giving away a chocolate bundle). All your teen has to do is fill out a ballot, and they could win!

Today’s Instagram challenge is to take a photo of your #CoverCrush, and use the hashtag #CPlibrary so that we can find your photos!  Our cover crush is Alyson Noel’s, UNRIVALED.  Strawberries on a book cover?  Come on!

If you don’t already follow us on Instagram, get over there now and click “FOLLOW”.

Parent Information Night

SUMMERTonight is our Parent Information Night for all of the children registered in the Summer Literacy Tutoring program. We welcome all parents or guardians who would like a little more information about what their children will be doing this summer.

We’ll get started at 6pm, have a quick info period, and question session at the end. You’ll get a chance to look at materials we’ll be using this summer, take a look at a sample session, and give us any last-minute information we might need regarding your child’s attendance.

The schedule is set, and we’ll be contacting parents regarding the sessions a few days before they start, so no need to worry that you’ll miss it. This is going to be a great summer for getting children to enjoy reading and improve their skills. They’ll be taking part in the TD Summer Reading Club at the same time and earning stickers and other fun things toward their goals.

Hope to see you tonight!

TD Summer Reading Club

TDSRC_Logo_colour_ENG_with_2016Once again, we’re taking part in the TD Summer Reading Club! This is a wonderful program aimed at children aged 0 – 12, and it provides tons of support–and fun–to help get your child reading this summer.

First up, we’re holding our Library Lemonade Stand Summer Reading Kick-Off on Thursday, June 30th, from 1-3pm.  This is a rain or shine event, with lots of ice cold lemonade, to kick off summer reading in the best way possible.  Join us on the front steps of the library to get your glass of lemonade, register for summer reading, and enter to win one of our Library Gold Cards!  It’s going to be WILD!

Once your child registers, they’ll be given a fun bag full of reading supplies to get them through the summer. They’ll be collecting stickers, filling out ballots for great prizes, and adding to our special summer display…just for reading books! Children taking part in our literacy tutoring sessions will also join in the fun, so don’t worry, we’re not leaving anyone out.

Speaking of everyone, during the Lemonade Stand, teens can also register to read and pick up their Book Buck Bingo card. This summer is going to be one of the most fun ones ever, with lots of new challenge squares, weekly Take and Makes with prizes, and fun things to spend your Book Bucks on in August and September.

And we’re not leaving out adults. During the week of July 4-8th, you can register for Adult Summer Reading, which is all about choosing whatever books you enjoy–and maybe finding some new ones–and getting your chance at a Library Gold Card, too! We’ll have some fun planned for you as well, with prizes and more….but you’ll have to come to the library to find out what.

If you want to get a jump on summer reading, the TD Summer Reading Club website has great book suggestions for the kids, some fun ideas to do with the kids on days off, and much more. Take a look around, and come to the library to find out more.

Summer Reading is Coming!

We’re gearing up for a WILD summer of reading at the library….but you’ll have to wait a little bit longer. We have WILD programs, WILD ideas, and WILD fun planned, so stay tuned. Summer Reading at the Carleton Place Public Library is about to be released!

Welcome back, Melody!

We’re pleased to welcome our summer student, Melody, today! She comes back to us after working as a page here for several years. We’re excited to have her fastidious eye, sunny disposition, and creativity at the library again this summer.

She’ll be busy getting all of the programs up and going for July and August, but in the meantime, if you see her sitting at the front desk, say hello!
