Last week, we posted a notice to parents who might be interested in joining us for a French Storytime at the library. The response was amazing! Not only did we find a very generous community member who is excited about helping us with this project, we also heard back from many of you regarding what you’re looking for.
While we don’t have a definite plan yet, we will be hosting a French Storytime event during the March Break, so watch here for more information! This will be a fun preview of the regular storytime, and you’ll get to meet the wonderful Agathe, our storytime leader!
Now, off to purchase books for these sessions!
We’re going to be away at the Ontario Library Association Super Conference for a few days, so storytime and babytime are cancelled this week.
Don’t worry, you can still sign up for next week by calling 257-2702. We’ll be excited to get back at it. As usual, however, if the buses are cancelled due to poor weather conditions, we don’t run programs. Please listen to your local radio station for more details, or watch here on Facebook for a post.
See you next week!
It’s been a while coming, but we’re hoping to start up a French Storytime for our wonderful young patrons. Living in a community with a French school, and French immersion in many of the other schools, we know there is a great need for this type of program. We also have more and more French-speaking families who have moved into the area, and we want to accommodate them, as well. But right now, we do not have anyone on-staff who speaks French, so we’re a little limited. That’s where YOU come in.
We’re looking for someone in our community who might be interested in leading a French storytime once a week, for a 6-week session. Each storytime will last 20 – 25 minutes, and we’ll provide all of the resources and support. All you’d have to do is make the commitment, and join us at the library to make this wonderful program a reality! This would be a wonderful opportunity for someone homeschooling children, a retired community member, or even a high school student looking to earn a few volunteer hours. If you know someone who might be interested, please pass on the information, and have them get in touch with us at the Carleton Place Public Library, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
This week, we’re running a quick questionnaire in the library for our patrons to find out who might be interested, and how we can best serve our young patrons. Please stop in to fill out the questionnaire, which includes questions about when to run it, what age group is looking for a French storytime, and the extent of your child’s French abilities. If you can’t make it in, please let us know and we’ll send you some info.
Yay for French Storytime!
No, I don’t mean we’re starting from scratch. We’re just getting back into our regular programs. It’s going to be a fun year!
First up this week is Storytime. We still have spaces for the 9:30am session, and the 10:15am session, so give us a call right away to save your place. And as always, if the buses are cancelled, please remember there will be no storytime session that week.
And we’re welcoming babies back on Thursday, January 8th! This is a six-week session only, Thursday mornings at 9:30. Don’t worry, you don’t have to attend all of them (babies are very unpredictable), but try to make it to one at least. You’ll meet other parents, and your babies will have a chance to socialize. Once again, give us a call to register, and watch our Facebook page in case of bad weather adjustments.
If you thought our storytime sessions were over for the year, you’ll be happy to know that we’re having a special family storytime that’s all about Christmas!
Join us on Wednesday, December 10th from 6-7pm for an hour of stories, crafts, treats and more! Don’t be afraid to wear pajamas, either. We expect some little ones to drop off right after. This session is aimed at children of all ages, and no registration is required.
See you at storytime!
We’ve had a great fall session, but storytime, babytime and toddler time are finishing up for the end of the year. This week, we’ll have the last storytime and toddler time meet-ups, and then we’ll take a break until 2015.
If you have been attending on a regular basis, we’ll make an announcement when you’re here this week regarding registration for 2015. If you can’t make it, please watch this space, as well as the library Facebook page for more information. For most of it, we’ll start registering in early December.
It’s been a wonderful fall, and we can’t wait to see all of our favourite faces in the new year!
Yes, the man with the big red shoes is coming back to the Carleton Place Public Library again! We’re excited about this visit, which is taking place on Thursday, October 16th at 3pm. It’s aimed at children aged 4-7 years old, but everyone is welcome. Ronald will read a story and visit with our young friends until it is time for him to leave. It’s going to be so much fun!
The last time Ronald was here, he made quite the splash in the library, so if you happen to be around that day, don’t be surprised if you see him traipsing through the stacks!
No registration is necessary for this fun family storytime, but plan to be here early in order to get a good spot. (Don’t worry parents, he won’t be bringing any McDonald’s treats with him….it’ll be all about the story that afternoon!) Call us at the library for more information. 257-2702.
