The Stories are Over.

storytime1We’re finishing up a lot of our fall programs this week and next, including storytime. This is such a favourite of our patrons, and I know it will be tricky getting the little ones out of the schedule, but we hope everyone will continue to visit the library during December to take out books and DVDs.

Our new Winter program schedule will go out in a week or so at the front desk. We’re busy planning a variety of amazing things for our patrons for 2016, so keep watching here and on our Facebook page for all of the details.

Our next storytime session will start on January 13th, and registration will begin on December 15th. Please call early to register for the space you would like, either at 9:30am, or 10:15am. We always have a fun morning!

See you in 2016!

Storytime at the Library!

After a successful summer at the library, we’re getting back into a regular schedule, and that means storytime! Once again, we’re running two sessions back-to-back on Wednesday mornings.

violetWe’re starting to take registration for the programs now. You can call us to sign up, or drop by the library to reserve a space in either the 9:30am, or 10:15am programs. Storytime will run from Sept., 16th to November 25th.

Storytime consists of stories, songs, rhymes and more for children aged 2-5 years old. Please feel free to bring along your younger children as well, so that your storytime-aged child can enjoy the session. We’re used to an active session!

This usually fills up fast, so don’t hesitate….register now to reserve a space in the session you prefer!

Storytime is Back!

For those of you with young ones at home, we know you’ve been itching to get back to Storytime at the library. After a nice little break, we’re ready to begin again!

Join us each Wednesday morning at 10am for a half hour of stories, songs, and lots of fun. And, of course, there will be plenty of time afterwards to look for books and movies.

Registration is required because spaces will be really limited with only one session during the summer. Make sure to call early to get your young one on the list, and register EACH WEEK for the next session. We want to give everyone a chance to attend.

And don’t forget, while you’re here, sign everyone up for the TD Summer Reading Club! They can earn stickers, and ballots for fun prizes. See you tomorrow!

French Storytime!

storytimefrancaisLast week, we posted a notice to parents who might be interested in joining us for a French Storytime at the library. The response was amazing! Not only did we find a very generous community member who is excited about helping us with this project, we also heard back from many of you regarding what you’re looking for.

While we don’t have a definite plan yet, we will be hosting a French Storytime event during the March Break, so watch here for more information! This will be a fun preview of the regular storytime, and you’ll get to meet the wonderful Agathe, our storytime leader!

Now, off to purchase books for these sessions!

storytimereminderWe’re going to be away at the Ontario Library Association Super Conference for a few days, so storytime and babytime are cancelled this week.

Don’t worry, you can still sign up for next week by calling 257-2702. We’ll be excited to get back at it. As usual, however, if the buses are cancelled due to poor weather conditions, we don’t run programs. Please listen to your local radio station for more details, or watch here on Facebook for a post.

See you next week!

Storytime…en francais!

storytimefrancaisIt’s been a while coming, but we’re hoping to start up a French Storytime for our wonderful young patrons. Living in a community with a French school, and French immersion in many of the other schools, we know there is a great need for this type of program. We also have more and more French-speaking families who have moved into the area, and we want to accommodate them, as well. But right now, we do not have anyone on-staff who speaks French, so we’re a little limited. That’s where YOU come in.

We’re looking for someone in our community who might be interested in leading a French storytime once a week, for a 6-week session. Each storytime will last 20 – 25 minutes, and we’ll provide all of the resources and support. All you’d have to do is make the commitment, and join us at the library to make this wonderful program a reality! This would be a wonderful opportunity for someone homeschooling children, a retired community member, or even a high school student looking to earn a few volunteer hours. If you know someone who might be interested, please pass on the information, and have them get in touch with us at the Carleton Place Public Library, or

This week, we’re running a quick questionnaire in the library for our patrons to find out who might be interested, and how we can best serve our young patrons. Please stop in to fill out the questionnaire, which includes questions about when to run it, what age group is looking for a French storytime, and the extent of your child’s French abilities. If you can’t make it in, please let us know and we’ll send you some info.

Yay for French Storytime!

We’re Starting Again!

No, I don’t mean we’re starting from scratch. We’re just getting back into our regular programs. It’s going to be a fun year!

First up this week is Storytime. We still have spaces for the 9:30am session, and the 10:15am session, so give us a call right away to save your place.  And as always, if the buses are cancelled, please remember there will be no storytime session that week.

And we’re welcoming babies back on Thursday, January 8th! This is a six-week session only, Thursday mornings at 9:30. Don’t worry, you don’t have to attend all of them (babies are very unpredictable), but try to make it to one at least. You’ll meet other parents, and your babies will have a chance to socialize. Once again, give us a call to register, and watch our Facebook page in case of bad weather adjustments.
