Last Storytime

It’s the last Storytime of the spring season, and while we’re sad to see it come to an end, we’re excited to get planning for summer!

We’ll have our summer calendar ready sometime in the first week of June, so make sure to stop back here that week to see what we have planned. New faces, new programs…it’s all going to be exciting!

Don’t forget, you can see what’s going on at any point by visiting our website at

Storytime Begins!

We’re starting up our programs again this week, and one of our favourites is coming tomorrow. Give us a call to register your 2-5 year old for storytime….either the 9:30am or 10:15am session. We’re looking forward to seeing all of those young storytimers again!

It’s Storytime Again!

It’s that time of year again—-all of our fun fall programs are beginning again, including one of our favourites, Storytime!

Registration begins today for this program aimed at 2-5 year olds. We run two sessions on Wednesday mornings, one at 9:30am, and another at 10:15am. Each one will include books, songs, rhymes, and lots of fun. We focus on the five basics of early literacy—–reading, writing, playing, singing and talking. It’s a great way to give your children some exposure to social settings, learning skills in a group, and to meet some new friends. This is especially important if your child doesn’t attend a daycare, or isn’t involved in activities outside the home (it’s important for parents, too!).

Call us today to sign up for one of the sessions, which begins on Wednesday, September 13th. We’re looking forward to having some of our favourite young friends back at the library, and to meeting new ones!

Storytime is Back!

storytimeWe’re gearing up for another great session of storytime at the library. It happens on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am, and again at 10:15am. Our 2-5 year olds learn early literacy skills, sing songs, bang rhythm sticks, and listen to stories. They even take home a fun craft!

Who is this best aimed at?

We invite all 2-5 year olds to attend, but we often have younger siblings tag along. And they always end up participating just as much as the older kids. Even if your child isn’t super active yet, we bet they’ll enjoy each session. We have something for everyone….songs, stories, giggles, and more.

What if my child can’t sit still?

We have LOTS of fun things that get the wiggles out. But if your child isn’t quite ready to sit for any length of time, you’re welcome to bring them and try it out. You can always leave the room for a few minutes if your child is fussy. We guarantee they’ll want to come back in at some point (usually when we break out the rhythm sticks)!

Why do I need to register?

Since we run most of our programs for young children when we’re not open, many people have no idea why they can’t just drop in from week to week. But if you’ve been to one of our sessions where that happens, you’ll know it can be C-R-A-Z-Y if there are too many children/parents/babies/stuffed animals in one room. So, we need people to register so that we can control each session and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone (especially the children’s librarian)!

What if it’s a bad day for us? Or what if it snows?

If the buses are cancelled, we don’t run our children’s events. Many families have older children who might suddenly be home, and it’s tricky to keep everyone occupied. We’ll post a bus cancellation on our Library Facebook page, so make sure to check there if you’re not sure.

If you can’t make a session you’ve signed up for, please CALL THE LIBRARY to let us know. Not only will we be able to pop someone else into that space at the last minute, but we’ll make sure you’re on the list for the following week. We don’t want anyone to be disappointed.

We don’t celebrate holidays. How do I know if this is not going to suit my child?

In the past, we’ve held special storytimes to celebrate holidays. It becomes a little tricky trying to make our sessions appropriate for every denomination or belief, so we tend to run very general storytimes now….no holiday books, rhymes, songs, or crafts. However, if we do decide to do something a little different, we’ll let everyone know the week before, or provide an alternative craft for those who might not want to take the one we’re handing out that week. Please feel free to talk to the librarians about special requests, such as celebrations or beliefs. We’ll do our best to make it fun for everyone!

Great!  When can I sign up?

You can sign up starting January 3rd. Give us a call at 257-2702.

BRING A FRIEND TOWe’re excited to announce that Storytime is starting again in September!  It will be another fun season of stories, songs, rhymes and much more. Your 2-5 year olds will learn pre-literacy skills while having fun and meeting new friends.

Registration begins today, so don’t hesitate to sign up right away. Spaces are limited for each session, and while there are two each week, they usually fill up fast. You don’t have to register a younger child if you are bringing them along….save the spaces for the 2-5 year olds!

As always, parents (or caregivers) are required to stay for the session. Once the cold weather gets here, please listen to the radio or check the school websites for bus cancellations. When buses are cancelled due to snow days, we don’t have storytime, either. There is no need to risk the icy or snowy roads just to hear a story!

Please give us a call at 257-2702 to register for the session you want, or drop by the library today to sign up. We’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces this fall!

Summer Storytime

Summer StorytimeWe love Storytime at the library….and we know you do, too! It’s been several weeks since our last one, so we’re excited to get going again. But take note….summer storytime runs a little differently.

First up, you can begin to register today for this program. While we usually have two sessions during the year, in summer we only have one and it starts at 10am. Because this is such a popular program, you can imagine that reducing it down to one session will mean that there are limited spaces available. And limited spaces will be easy to fill, so please make sure to register for the FIRST SESSION right away.

Signing up for one session does not mean you’ll be registered for the entire summer, however. Please make sure you sign up each week. If we are full and you come to storytime that morning, you will be able to stay and take out books, but your child will be super disappointed. Don’t let them be disappointed in you, parents! Make sure to register each week!
