We didn’t forget about our young crafters! While we often have an Easter Craft Night, it fell too close to our March Break plans, and we just didn’t have time to prep everything. But don’t fret….we’re gearing up for a Spring Craft Night in April!
Registration is now open for children aged 6-11 for the Spring Craft Night on Tuesday, April 19th from 6-7pm. We’ll do fun crafts, play some games, and probably have a treat or two. It’s the last craft night of the season, so don’t wait to sign up your young creative pal!
Spaces are limited, so call us to sign up, or drop by the library to pick up your fridge reminder.
Carleton Place is a beautiful community to live in, but as with any area, spring brings about some winter leftovers. The streets have piles of salt and sand, dried or sopping wet leaves that weren’t cleaned up in fall now make their home against curbs and near grates, and branches and general litter can be seen just about everywhere. That’s why the Carleton Place BIA (Business Improvement Association) is holding “OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP” the week of April 20 – 26. If you have a community group, or if your school or business would like to pitch in and help dust off our town for Spring, please contact Cathy McOrmond at the Carleton Place BIA to register and get a clean up package. They can’t do this alone, so get out and enjoy some fresh air, while helping to make our community sparkle!
While it may not feel like spring out there, we’re trying very hard to make it visit the library. To celebrate, we’re having a Spring Craft Night tonight for 7 – 12 year olds. Registration is now full, but we’re expecting a whole host of crafters to join us for a night of creating, laughing and maybe even a little learning!
Pretty soon, we’ll be able to lie in the grass and look up at the stars, but until then, we’re making our own special stars out of paper! A little folding, a little cutting and a little tape is all we’ll need to make these pretty items. If you’d like to make your own, you can follow the instructions here.
After that, we’re going to make these simple little birds. Wouldn’t you like to find these in your front yard tomorrow?
It might have snowed a little this morning in Carleton Place, but we’re convinced that the nice weather is just around the corner! So, we’re celebrating spring at the library!
Our display windows are full of colour and happy things that we hope will make everyone feel cheery! Yes, some of the items will be used during our Easter Craft Night for the kids (which is already full, I’m afraid), but they’ll have fun trying to make their own versions!
This month, we’re also happy to be featuring artwork by local artist and patron, Donna Naprstek and her students. stop in and see what they’ve got on our wall this month. There’s everything from watercolour paintings to graphite sketches and maybe you’ll even find something you’d like to purchase!
Don’t forget, if you’re getting ready for Easter at the end of the month, we have lots of cookbooks and craft books to help get you started. You can also find some great ideas in our magazine section, so come in a browse and take home some inspiration!
This was the view from our office window yesterday afternoon at the library. The first full day of spring….
Kind of makes you want to get out that bicycle and go for a ride, doesn’t it??
