This week, we drew for all the prizes in our TD Summer Reading Program wrap-up! We had over 70 prizes to give away, all generously donated by local businesses such as the Bulk Barn, A&W, the TD Bank, McDonald’s and more. We had one very special Grand Prize, consisting of an extremely large gift basket full of great items and we were thrilled it went to such a super reader! Congratulations, Abby!
We were also thrilled that Agent G. is going home with a special family and a certain sweet little girl who will no doubt take good care of him. We hope she’ll bring him by for a visit every so often!
Now, we’re emptying out the office as kids come in to pick up their prizes. It’ll be nice to have a bit more floor space soon. But we certainly had fun this summer!
At the beginning of the summer, our gnome started with empty forest bookshelves. Here we are, almost at the end of the summer, and the shelves are full to bursting! Each book represents three books read, so we’re well over 1000 books read and still counting! Our young readers have had a fabulous time trying to collect at 9 stickers and earn ballots for the prizes. And next week, we’ll draw for the Grand Prize and all the other prizes, so it’s going to be fun! (Of course, the kids can continue reading until the end of September to collect all their stickers…there just won’t be any more prizes.) And Agent G. will go to his new home. We’re going to miss him, but we hope he’ll enjoy his new family and continue on his fun journey in Carleton Place!
What a wonderful surprise for our own Agent G! After entering his photo in a Blossom ShopFacebook contest to celebrate the Olympics, he found out that he was the lucky recipient of a gorgeous Olympic-inspired flower arrangement! How lucky!
The flowers arrived Tuesday afternoon and Agent G. was the lucky one again to have his photo taken with one of the lovely Blossom Shop ladies.
The flowers are gorgeous, all the colours of the Olympic rings and so cheery and celebratory!! What a wonderful thing to cheer Agent G. up today (he’s starting to feel a little blue now that the summer is wrapping up and he’ll be leaving).
But it’s been a fantastic summer and he promises you’ll see him at the next Olympics, doing what else? Trampoline! Thanks again to everyone at The Blossom Shop for their wonderful and generous gift. Everyone at the library appreciated it! Especially Agent G.!
Our very own Gnomebrarian, Agent G., is almost done his post here with us this summer! It’s pretty amazing how much everyone took to him (he’s very friendly, after all), and invited him to all kinds of town events and places this summer. He really got around and still plans on doing whatever else he can while visiting Carleton Place. (On the agenda is a trip to visit a few local cousins, a gnome home sighting and maybe even a drop in to a few special people.)
If you’ve been following his progress on Facebook, you’ll know that while he’s had a great time outside the library, he’s also done a lot of work right here INSIDE the library. The kids have filled up his bookshelves, much faster than we ever expected, and he’ll stay until all of those books are organized. (You can see the wall progression at a link on the right hand side of the page). Plus, he’s had a lot of fun working with our summer student Emma
and even enjoyed a surprise visit from One Direction, his favourite band!
There’s still plenty of time to come in and pick up one of Agent G.’s recommended books, or suggest one for HIM to read. (He’s got two books on the go right now…Pablo Goes Surfing and Because of Winn Dixie.) And don’t forget, we have two more weeks of programs for kids of all ages. Check out our schedule or call to see what’s coming up. But register quickly….they’re going to fill up.
Life is going to be pretty boring around here with Agent G.
We have a box at the ready so kids can suggest a great book for Agent G., our resident Gnomebrarian, to read this summer. The box has been filling up with a variety of suggestions, from The Hunger Games to Fancy Nancy. So far, none of the books contain gnomes, but we’re still hopeful.
Love the sad gnome picture on the bottom of this suggestion!
Picture this…..a warm July morning, nearly three weeks into the summer holidays, and the kids have nothing to do. It’s not the weekend, so getting out to enjoy the Farmer’s Market or a summer fair may not be on the agenda quite yet. And remember those kids? They’re still complaining… I’m bored! Why can’t we go somewhere? I’m tired of swimming all day!
We thought of that and planned a mid-week event for kids of all ages! (Yes, even moms will enjoy this!) Join us on Thursday, July 19th for THE AMAZING CORBIN AND THE MAGNIFICENT MYSTERY AND MAGIC SHOW at the Carleton Place Town Hall Auditorium. The show starts at 10am and will be filled with all kinds of fun tricks, laughs and amazement! You won’t believe your eyes as The Amazing Corbin shares his incredible talent with us…and it’s all a part of our great library summer program!
Yes….you’ll have to buy a ticket, but you can get one (or two, or twelve) right now at the library for only $3 each (adults and children). And this is the only library event that will cost you anything this summer, so why not come out and enjoy this fun morning with your kids. They’ll stop whining and I can almost guarantee they’ll want to come by the library later to take out magic books! Just think….a whole morning of fun, and an entire afternoon where the kids are occupied and enjoying themselves (and maybe even learning a skill or two. Who knows? You might have the next Amazing Corbin right in your own household!).
And of course, Agent G. already has his ticket and plans to sit in the front row (he’s not that tall, you know). Get your tickets and plan to have your picture taken with him that morning, too!
It’s Go Wild Week at the library and we’re excited to get things underway! Tuesday and Thursday are filled with games, crafts and lots of fun and Emma’s got everything ready in her Jungle Room!
Even the little ones are going to meet some friendly creatures on Wednesday. And all of this is free! You have to register for each program and we’re already signing up for next week, but just give us a call and we’ll get your child’s name on our list!
And the big announcement? Our Gnome finally has a name! Introducing AGENT G.!
Congratulations to Kaya Faraday for coming up with the great choice!
