No registration is necessary, and this is aimed at all ages, but is most appropriate for children aged 3-7, with some knowledge of French.
See you at the library!
With a little over a month to prepare for our 2016 programs, we’re excited to remind people about our wonderful French Storytime! Our lovely volunteer, Agathe, prepares fantastic stories and songs each week, with the group in mind. While this is open to all ages, it is better if your child has some French language skills to help them understand each story, but Agathe uses a nice combination of French and English to speed things along when necessary.
There is no registration for this program, and it runs every Friday through the winter/spring session, at 10:30am. Come every week, or come once in a while. We’d love the see you!
It’s been a while coming, but we’re hoping to start up a French Storytime for our wonderful young patrons. Living in a community with a French school, and French immersion in many of the other schools, we know there is a great need for this type of program. We also have more and more French-speaking families who have moved into the area, and we want to accommodate them, as well. But right now, we do not have anyone on-staff who speaks French, so we’re a little limited. That’s where YOU come in.
We’re looking for someone in our community who might be interested in leading a French storytime once a week, for a 6-week session. Each storytime will last 20 – 25 minutes, and we’ll provide all of the resources and support. All you’d have to do is make the commitment, and join us at the library to make this wonderful program a reality! This would be a wonderful opportunity for someone homeschooling children, a retired community member, or even a high school student looking to earn a few volunteer hours. If you know someone who might be interested, please pass on the information, and have them get in touch with us at the Carleton Place Public Library, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
This week, we’re running a quick questionnaire in the library for our patrons to find out who might be interested, and how we can best serve our young patrons. Please stop in to fill out the questionnaire, which includes questions about when to run it, what age group is looking for a French storytime, and the extent of your child’s French abilities. If you can’t make it in, please let us know and we’ll send you some info.
Yay for French Storytime!
This Saturday, we’re having a wonderful event at the library just to celebrate French books! Join us at 11am on Saturday, February 25th for an hour of stories, songs and crafts with Eric Galarneau from the French Division of the Best Start Network.
We’ll have plenty of great French books for young readers to take home, and if you’re one of the first 20 families, we’ll also send you off with a free gift! There’s no registration for this…just come a little early and we’ll have lots of space to sit. This is geared toward young readers, Francophone families, kids in French immersion, and anyone who just wants to attend!
See you on Saturday!
We’re so pleased to be having a special French event at the library at the end of February! With so many Francophone families in our community, more and more children in French immersion programs, and of course, a French school, we want to be able to provide resources for the kids when they need them. This includes not only French picture books and early readers for those just learning, but also more advanced French fiction and non-fiction for kids in higher grades as well. The library is a valuable place, not just for English speaking patrons, and we want to celebrate our Francophone community!
On Saturday, February 25th, we’ll be having a wonderful visit from Eric Galarneau to celebrate a grant we received from the Regional French Network for the Best Start Initiative to purchase new books for our library! Eric will read a variety of wonderful and entertaining French stories, sing some songs and we’ll even do a little artwork to keep the fun going. And one of the most exciting things is that the first 20 families will receive a FREE GIFT!!! (This event is aimed at children 0 – 9…but older kids are welcome also. The books are geared to a younger crowd, however.)
You don’t have to sign up, just plan to attend on Saturday, February 25 at 11am. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the library!
(Don’t forget to follow the library this morning on Twitter…flu shot clinic updates……see yesterday’s post for more details)
If you’ve already joined us for one of our French Storytimes, then you’ll know how much fun we have! This will be the last French Storytime of the year and we hope to see some new faces. Join us on Monday, November 30th at 6pm for some holiday-themed stories, hot chocolate and maybe even a treat! The stories are completely in French, but there will be lots of time for vocabulary and questions, so even if your child only has a limited knowledge of French, this can be a fun event. Get to know Marc from Starbucks as he reads for us!
We’re now taking registrations for kids aged 3 – 8 and Pre-registration is a MUST as spaces are very limited. Call us at 257-2702 for more information or to sign up or drop by the library and sign up in person. It’s going to be a fun event!
