For a long-overdue Frivolous Friday Post, let’s talk about break-ins. With the holiday season upon us, many people are getting ready to travel and leave our homes unoccupied, and most of us are starting to fill our homes with presents. As a kid, I remember a long day of Christmas shopping with my family ending in tears when we came back to our car after a meal to find all of our gifts had been stolen. It’s a terrible feeling, and even worse when someone breaks into your home.
So, is there anything you can do about it? I came across a really interesting article from a radio station in Portland, Oregon, that interviewed 86 criminals currently incarcerated for breaking and entering, about would–and would not–prohibit them from entering a home intending to steal. And it might not be what you think.
Read the article here to find out what you can do to make your surroundings a little less inviting to criminals this holiday season. Turns out the top three turn-offs for burglar are big dogs, a car in the driveway, and music or TV playing inside the house. For those who have a little more spare cash, another great deterrent are cameras.
