Zombies revisited

giftsTHE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS by M.R. Carey is not your average zombie novel. And now it’s being made into a movie that has reviewers all atwitter! While we often go through cycles of popularity (vampires, vikings, superpowers, fight to the death games), zombies is the latest genre to be written and viewed to almost a breaking point. THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS is breaking all of the rules, however, and causing people to say this movie/book will change everything.

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her “our little genius.”

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. She jokes that she won’t bite, but they don’t laugh.
The Girl With All the Gifts is a groundbreaking thriller, emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end.

You can see the official trailer here to get a sense for the book.

What do you think? Is the zombie genre “dead”? (See how I did that?)
