Hulu and Warner Brothers TV, along with J.J. Abrams’ fabulous team, have announced they’ll be making a 9-hour series based on Stephen King’s alternate history novel, 11/22/63 which is based on the events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

I loved this book, which centers around English teacher Jake Epping who discovers the local diner has a portal that can transport him back to 1958….several years before the assassination in Texas. But time travel through this secret portal is not without consequences, as Epping soon discovers.  While there are many classic King-isms in this book (it’s not for those who cannot suspend disbelief for a short time, or for those who aren’t comfortable with King’s interest in paranormal/horror nuances), this is a wonderful re-imaging of a horrible moment in US history. Not only does he shed light on historical facts many generations might not have heard, but he paints Lee Harvey Oswald in a human light, making this book rich with history and humanity.

While the mini-series isn’t set to air until 2015 on Hulu, and probably later through Warner Brothers, I’m going to mark my calendar so that I don’t forget. And if you haven’t read the book, you still have time. It’s a biggie, so you might want to get right on it!
