Yes, you read that right, we’re off to Winnipeg this weekend. What for? We’re going to the Canadian Library Association Conference to pick up an award! How exciting!
Every summer, our library participates in the TD Summer Reading Club. We offer lots of special programs for a variety of ages, along with the reading program that kids can take part in all summer long. Last summer, we were especially busy and enjoyed the “IMAGINE” theme that saw us putting colourful book covers onto our Gnomebrarian’s tree bookcases throughout June, July and August. It was a lot of fun, and we even got the older set reading like mad by participating in our Book Buck Bingo.
At the end of the summer, we put together all of our resources, write a special essay about the program and send everything off with our statistics to Library and Archives Canada. And recently, we found out we placed 2nd overall in the English Library category! It’s such an honour for us to be recognized for providing innovative and effective summer programming for area youth. So, we’re off to Winnipeg to accept the award and bring back a nice plaque to display in our library.
Once we get back, we’ll start into preparations for this summer’s reading program…. GO! It’s going to be lots of fun!
A BIG, BIG thanks to Library and Archives Canada and the TD Bank for taking the time to recognize that public libraries in Canada are important!
