It’s back!! The TD Summer Reading Program is about to start at the Carleton Place Public Library once again. And this year, the theme is really going to be fun!
Kids will get to use their imaginations this summer to go to great lands, meet wonderful creatures or learn about a new idea. IMAGINE is the theme and we’re ready for a summer full of fun for kids from 2 – 12! The program is free and you don’t have to come on a regular day or time to participate. Just drop in, pick up one of our invitations, and then go home and start reading. When you come back to the library the next time, we’ll give you a bag chocked full of all kinds of fun things to keep you going this summer. And you’ll earn stickers all summer, each one with a special secret code to help unlock great new visuals and fun literacy building activities on the TD Summer Reading website.
To get you started, I’ve posted several booklists with great IMAGINE themed reading suggestions for all ages. Choose books according to what you like to read, whether it’s animals, fantasy or even steampunk.
There will be TONS of great programs to go along with the reading club this summer, all of which will be built around the IMAGINE theme. The events will be divided up into age groups and if your child sees something fun he or she would like to attend, make sure to sign up as soon as registration opens to save a space. As always, most of these events are free, except for The Amazing Corbin magic show on Thursday, July 19th. Watch the blog or our Facebook page for details on where to get tickets!

For kids in Grades 5 and up, we’re going to have an exciting summer of Book Bingo! Drop in and pick up our Teen Reading Brochure and we’ll give you the details. Last summer, the Book Bucks were such a success, we decided to do it again this year, but with a slightly different spin. Earn book bucks by scoring spaces on your Book Bingo card, and save them to spend at one of our special Book Buck events later in the summer. We can’t wait to see how much you’ll earn!
