French Storytime at the Carleton Place Public Library

French Storytime

(Don’t forget to follow the library this morning on Twitter…flu shot clinic updates……see yesterday’s post for more details)

If you’ve already joined us for one of our French Storytimes, then you’ll know how much fun we have!  This will be the last French Storytime of the year and we hope to see some new faces.  Join us on Monday, November 30th at 6pm for some holiday-themed stories, hot chocolate and maybe even a treat!  The stories are completely in French, but there will be lots of time for vocabulary and questions, so even if your child only has a limited knowledge of French, this can be a fun event.  Get to know Marc from Starbucks as he reads for us!

We’re now taking registrations for kids aged 3 – 8 and Pre-registration is a MUST as spaces are very limited.  Call us at 257-2702 for more information or to sign up or drop by the library and sign up in person.  It’s going to be a fun event!

He Came With the Couch

Wednesday morning was our first fall storytime, and 14 little kids from 2 – 5 joined us at the library for a fun morning of stories, games and a craft.  One of my new favourite books is He Came With the Couch by David Slonim and we read that along with another story this morning.  He Came With the Couch is a delightful little tale of a creature (I’d like to say boy, but he is a little odd), who comes to a house with a couch and won’t leave.  The family tries everything, but eventually, they decide to just put up with him.

Picture 182As part of the morning, we made our own little characters to take home and I tell you, there were quite a few wildly coloured creatures that came out of that room.  I always take a look online for websites done by authors, and Slonim’s site didn’t disappoint.  Not only can you find out more about all of his books, he has “serious” artwork there as well as a page for fun things, where I found couch colouring pages for the kids.

We have an0ther storytime session on Thursday this week, and already, we are filling up fast.  If you are interested in bringing your little one to storytime, you can call us at 613-257-2702 or register right at the front desk.  It’s a fun way to spend an hour!

Storytime in english and french!

We’re getting ready to start another full session of storytime for kids ages 2 – 5 at the Carleton Place Public Library!  Starting September 16th & 17th, we’ll hold a storytime in English from 10 – 11 am on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week.  Pre-registration is mandatory so that we know how many crafts to prepare and each session will include a couple of stories, some games or music and a fun craft to take home.  You can call to register at 263-257-2702 or come in and sign up.  But hurry because the next week’s sessions are filling up fast!

storytime And this fall, we’re starting a fun new storytime…in French!  The last Wednesday of each month, we’ll hold French storytime for kids ages 3 – 8.  The sessions are not for absolute beginners as the books will be entirely in French, but it would be ideal for home schooled kids or anyone just looking to improve their french at home.  The first session in Wednesday, September 30 from 1:30pm – 2pm and you must pre-register for this also.  Give us a call for more information or to sign up.

Secret Agents

This week, we started our summer programming for children at the Carleton Place Public Library.  We have had more than 200 children join the TD Summer Reading Program already, with 50 kids who have already read their first three books.  They are busy solving clues and searching the giant I Spy puzzle on our library wall.

Kelsey’s programs this week have already drawn a number of wanna-be spies.  They’ve made their own secret badges and name tags and had “training”, but tomorrow is Secret Agent Boot Camp, so I hope our little spies are ready!

Picture 125This morning, our storytime little ones were busy trying to bring the sunshine back to Carleton Place after days and days of rain.  Here’s one of our sunshine kids:

Picture 131If you are interested in coming ot one of the programs, please see our summer calendar on the right hand side of this page.  Send us an email or give us a call and sign up early because the programs are filling up quickly!

Secret Agents

Picture 135We started the day off at our Secret Headquarters (also known as the Carleton Place Public Library), beginning with “Operation Storytime”.  There were little secret agents everywhere and we had disguises, clues, badges and we made spy cameras to take home. Every one of our agents was sworn to secrecy and they promised not to reveal the location of the headquarters to anyone until later this summer.

Teddy Bears Everywhere!

teddybear

We had a great morning with almost 20 little kids and their teddy bears during the March Break!  Everyone poured in on the bright morning and we had stories, dancing (with our teddy bears), crafts and snacks.  We always have a great time during storytime, but this was an especially fun morning and we can’t wait to have a special day again soon.  If you’re looking for something to do with your children ages 2 – 5 , we run storytime each Wednesday and Thursday morning from 10 – 11am at the Carleton Place Public Library.  Just call us to register and we’ll save you a space!bears
