The Big Red Shoes

Ronald

Yes, the man with the big red shoes is coming back to the Carleton Place Public Library again! We’re excited about this visit, which is taking place on Thursday, October 16th at 3pm. It’s aimed at children aged 4-7 years old, but everyone is welcome.  Ronald will read a story and visit with our young friends until it is time for him to leave. It’s going to be so much fun!

The last time Ronald was here, he made quite the splash in the library, so if you happen to be around that day, don’t be surprised if you see him traipsing through the stacks!

No registration is necessary for this fun family storytime, but plan to be here early in order to get a good spot. (Don’t worry parents, he won’t be bringing any McDonald’s treats with him….it’ll be all about the story that afternoon!) Call us at the library for more information. 257-2702.

It’s Storytime Again!

We’re getting excited to have lots of little ones join us on Wednesday mornings for Storytime again. And same as last year, we’re opening up the morning to include two sessions—–one at 9:30am and the next one at 10:15am.  When you call to register, you’ll have to make a choice between the early session or the later one, but don’t worry, we’ll have just as much fun at both!

Storytime Poster 2014-2015 Storytime is open to children aged 2-5 years old, but you’re welcome to bring along your baby or toddler if you have an older child wanting to attend. (No need to add their names to our registration list.)

These sessions are filled with songs, books, rhymes and much more to help promote early literacy skills so that your child goes off to school ready to read! While we don’t do crafts during the session anymore, there will always be a fun take-home, so you’ll have something to do later in the day that relates back to storytime. This is a great way to bring back the ideas we focused on that session.

Give us a call to register, or drop by the library if you’d like to know bit more. Yay, it’s storytime again!

Sessions start September 10th!

We’ve Got a Story to Tell!

Every Wednesday morning is storytime at the library! And after a short break in December, we’re looking forward to starting again this week!

This year, we’re trying something a bit different….two storytimes on the same morning! If you call to sign up, you’ll be asked whether you want the 9:30am session, or the 10:15am session. Each session will be the same, and will include stories, music, rhymes, fingerplays and more! If your child is aged 2 – 5 and you’d like to attend, please call ahead to register. We cannot take drop-ins at this time, as space is really limited.

As always, you’re welcome to bring along a younger child with your storytime-aged child. If a child is fussy, we ask that you leave the room so that the rest of the children are not disturbed. And if the weather is bad and the buses are cancelled, storytime is also cancelled.

We’ll post regular updates about storytime on our Facebook page as well, so “like” us to stay informed!

We can’t wait to see everyone now that 2014 has started! Hurry up, Wednesday….we’re excited!

The Little Ones are Coming!

Next week, we begin all of our programs for young children at the library. First up is Storytime! This year, we’ll be doing things a little differently because of all-day Kindergarten in the area. Storytime will take place every Wednesday only, from 10 – 11am, and will be for children aged 2 – 5. We’re expecting lots of kids, and we’ll allow a few more than usual to accommodate the single session each week, but we still require PRE-REGISTRATION each week. Just drop by the library or call us to book a space. It’ll be a fun hour of stories, rhymes, music and crafts. Parents stay with their children and we expect everyone to be here right on time, as we’ll start right at 10am sharp! First session is Wednesday, September 11th!

Next up is Babytime.  Our babytime sessions have been so popular, we’ve decided to run them in six-week sessions each season.  That means our first session will run from September 12 – October 17th. We meet on Thursday mornings at 9:30am for half an hour.  There will be plenty of songs and stories, and lots of time for parents and babies to socialize afterward. We’ve got a nice list already of people who are going to attend, so please call to register before this session fills up.  Babytime is for children aged 0 – 12 months. Your child must be within that range for the entire session, please.  Our next session will take place in January.

Sign up for storytime or babytime today so that you reserve a place for you and your child! Hurry, the sessions will fill up quickly!

It’s Elephant and Piggie Day!

Sadly, it’s our last babytime this morning.  We’ve had such fun little sweeties join us for the last six weeks that I’m going to miss them!

babiesAnd just because we couldn’t have a March Break week without inviting all our young storytime friends, it’s Elephant and Piggie Day!

The fabulous picture book author Mo Willems has created such a well loved series of books based on a pair of unlikely friends that we just had to celebrate them!

We’re having a drop-in all afternoon today (1:30pm-5:30pm) for parents and children aged 2 – 5. The library will be all decked out in these wonderful characters and there will be plenty of fun.

Stop by, do a craft, play a game, hear a story and take out some books.  It’ll be almost like storytime….without the sticks! (Storytime parents will know what this means…and probably be thrilled!)IMG_4173

Sock Monkeys at the Library

You can never go wrong with monkeys.  Or puppets. Combine the two and you have magic! This week, we made sock monkey puppets and had crazy hair day for storytime.

After being inside for days because of the cold, many of the kids were happy to get out and do something fun. Needless to say, it was a wee bit loud at the library!
