Spring is in the air…

While it may not feel like spring out there, we’re trying very hard to make it visit the library. To celebrate, we’re having a Spring Craft Night tonight for 7 – 12 year olds.  Registration is now full, but we’re expecting a whole host of crafters to join us for a night of creating, laughing and maybe even a little learning!

Pretty soon, we’ll be able to lie in the grass and look up at the stars, but until then, we’re making our own special stars out of paper!  A little folding, a little cutting and a little tape is all we’ll need to make these pretty items.  If you’d like to make your own, you can follow the instructions here.

After that, we’re going to make these simple little birds. Wouldn’t you like to find these in your front yard tomorrow?

Craft-o-Rama!

Today is Craft-o-Rama at the library!  We’re expecting a room full of kids who are looking forward to creating some fun things to take home. Curiosity has been building as we’ve asked each participant to bring an old t-shirt. No, not to wear an old t-shirt….bring one. We’re going to be cutting them up!

What exactly are we making today? A great bag out of nothing more than a t-shirt, scissors and a safety pin! You can find all the instructions on how to make your own right here.

And since we’ll need one more fun thing to make, we’re going to try our hands at some easy and amazing friendship bracelets! Look at all these great colours!  It’s going to be partly a take-home project, but it’ll give everyone something to do while they’re on vacation this week.

Everyone loves crafts!

Valentine’s Craft Night

Once again, it’s Valentine’s Week, and we have lots of fun things planned for the kids!  Tuesday night was Valentine’s Craft Night and lots of young crafters showed up.  We made rings out of pipe cleaners and Hershey’s Kisses….lots of fun.

And then crazy little Valentine’s creatures, which I found on Made By Joel. You can print off your own and drop them off to your friends on Thursday…there’s still time!

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day!

Sock Monkeys at the Library

You can never go wrong with monkeys.  Or puppets. Combine the two and you have magic! This week, we made sock monkey puppets and had crazy hair day for storytime.

After being inside for days because of the cold, many of the kids were happy to get out and do something fun. Needless to say, it was a wee bit loud at the library!

Just a sample of all the fun things we do each week with our young friends.

Valentine’s Craft Night

The posters went up this week.  We already have a list started (but it’s not full yet, so call us to sign up). We’re going to have fun!

Valentine's Craft Night 2013

Valentine’s Craft Night at the library!

I’ve got the creeps!

Yes, Tuesday night is Halloween Craft Night! As usual, our registration is full and hopefully the storm will hold off enough for everyone to attend. It’s going to be a fun evening, full of glowing, spooky things. (Although not too spooky, I promise! No shrunken heads ever again.)

We’ll be making some kooky looking Frankenstein cards, guessing the Halloween Candy Mash Up (have you ever tried melting Smarties?  Tricky!), and making our own glow-in-the-dark jars. And yes, the kids can dress up if they wish. I’ll be wearing my bats. (I’m hoping there won’t be a weird repeat of last week when I attached plastic centipedes to my outfit and later that day, the biggest centipede I’d ever seen made a lovely appearance in the office all afternoon. Bats—please stay home!)

Let’s cross our fingers and hope the power stays on and the library doesn’t blow away!
