Christmas Craft Night

The latest winter bulletin board

It’s Christmas Craft Night at the library once again and fifteen eager crafters aged 6 – 10 will join us for a fun evening.  We’ll be making Santa ornaments, Christmas tree pop-up cards and crazy gift tags.  As usual, we’ll play a few games, eat lots of holiday candy and get sparkles everywhere.  So if you’re in the library tonight, don’t be surprised if you hear laughter in the back room.

This week, we had our Christmas Craft Night and 13 young crafters showed up to work on a variety of little projects, as well as play a few games, listen to the Barenaked Ladies singing a few holiday tunes, and take home some sweet treats.  These are just a few of the kids working on their Reindeer Pop Up Cards.

Our next craft night will be in February, so keep watching for the sign up!

Christmas Craft Night

Tomorrow night is Christmas Craft Night at the Carleton Place Public Library and we’re all ready for the 7 – 12 year olds who are coming. We have an assortment of crafts planned, along with some games and even a few treats to make the night complete.

It is always a challenge to come up with some fun crafts that are different and easy enough for everyone to do in the hour that we have together. This year, we’re making these great Reindeer Pop-up cards that I found on the Martha Stewart website. You can follow the link to make your own if you wish.

After that, we’ll be making some beautiful Christmas Angels using paper plates, some funky little Christmas trees that light up and if we have time, some crazy ornaments for our trees at home.

So if you’re in tomorrow night from 7 – 8 pm, expect to hear some giggles and maybe even some Christmas carols coming from the Barbara Walsh room. It’s going to be a fun night!

Halloween

Last night was Halloween craft night at the library and we had lots of kids in to participate.  We had a lot of fun making spooky Halloween cards, witch’s brooms, caskets with glow-in-the-dark skeletons and witch doctor necklaces.

Our night was just a bit of fun. Everyone took home a few things they’d made and a bag of candy along with some good memories, I hope.  If you’d like to know more about the history of Halloween and the folklore behind it, you should visit this great site.  Have a spooooky rest of the week!

As a children’s librarian, I am always looking for new and exciting places to find crafts for kids. Each week, I must plan a craft for storytime and throughout the year, we hold special craft nights during different holidays. So to come across a site which offers interesting crafts, not only ones that children will be interested in but also teens and adults, is a rare find.

This is a fantastic little site, with plenty of pictures and ideas, all well presented and sorted to make it easy to find what you are looking for. The designs are all available for download and include things like this great Old Man Mask:

Paper Houses:

Printable Labels and Cards:

and even Wallpaper and Screensavers for your computer:

I am working on creating some of the NaniBirds right now to see if they are something I can use for one of the craft nights (you’ll find them on the site). I hope that you can find something fun to work on as well!
