The American Library Association has announced the winners in several categories for children’s literature. They are:
Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village by Laura Amy Schlitz won the 2008 John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick received the Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children.
Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis and Let it Shine by Ashley Bryan both won the Coretta Scott King Book Awards recognizing an African-American author and illustrator.
And There is a Bird on your Head, written and illustrated by Mo Willems, won the Theodor Seuss Geisel award for most distinguished book for beginning readers.
